World Bank to Assist Tashkent

Bank’s experts will prepare a strategy for further development of the Uzbek capital

World Bank provided a grant for preparing a strategy on sustainable development of Tashkent, Uzbekistan’s capital. 

This information was released after Davron Khidoyatov, deputy of the Tashkent city mayor, met with Rosanna Nitti, an expert on urbanization from World Bank. 

According to the press service of the Tashkent city administration, implementation of the project starts this month. First of all, World Bank’s experts will perform a comprehensive analysis and prepare a strategy on the city’s sustainable development. The expert group is then expected to provide World Bank with specific information on various financial aspects of Tashkent’s sustainable development. 

Tashkent is the fourth largest city by population among former Soviet republics. As of January 1, 2019, the Uzbek capital has a population of 2.5 million people. Tashkent is also one of the oldest cities in the Central Asia region, dating back 2210 years. The territory of the city is about 334.8 square kilometers.
