Afghanistan Receives Food and Medicine from Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan has provided Afghanistan with humanitarian aid of food and medicine worth $1.9 million, the Interfax news agency reported, citing the country’s Ministry of Trade and Integration.

The minister of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan Bakhyt Sultanov has visited Kabul, Afghanistan, according to the press service of the ministry. During a meeting with the Afghan side, an official said that President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan entrusted him to give Afghanistan over 5,000 tons of flour as humanitarian aid.

«We have brought 1,500 tons of medicines. In addition, the humanitarian convoy with 155 tons of humanitarian cargo of food and medicines worth $1.9 million has left Kazakhstan. Very soon it will enter the territory of Afghanistan,» he said. 

Sultanov also informed the Afghan government that Kazakhstan fully supports the endeavors of the UN to overcome the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. For instance, the UN’s World Food Program has bought 20,000 tons of flour from Kazakhstan.

«Our country as many other internationals partners hope that the active phase of the inter-Afghan conflict is over and the right time for the country rebuilding has come,» Kazakhstan’s official added.

However, he underlined that Kazakhstan will not intervene in the internal affairs of Afghanistan.

«For a long time, we advocate for peaceful, united, independent and thriving Afghanistan, which is also free of terrorism and drug crimes. Afghan people have a right to decide what their future must look like for peace and development of the country,» Sultanov stated.

Within the international attempts to stabilize the situation in Afghanistan, Kazakhstan is going to send the country 5,000 tons of flour worth $2.5 million as humanitarian aid.
