Aisultan Nazarbayev died in London on the night of August 16

Dariga Nazarbayeva commented on the death of her son Aisultan and asked the public for understanding and respect for her family during this tragedy. This was reported on the Facebook page of the Foundation of the ex-President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev.

«My family is in deep mourning due to the death of our beloved Aisultan. In this difficult time for our family, we hope that the public is understanding and respectful of our irreparable loss,» the Foundation’s message reads.

The news of the death of Nazarbayev’s grandson emerged in media on August 16. Aisultan Nazarbayev died on the night of August 16 in London, presumably from cardiac arrest. Other details have not yet been reported.

Aisultan Rakhatovich Nazarbayev was born on August 26, 1990. His father is the Kazakhstani politician, entrepreneur and diplomat Rakhat Aliev, his mother is the eldest daughter of the first president of Kazakhstan and «Leader of the Nation» Nursultan Nazarbayev, Dariga Nazarbayeva (born in 1963).

Aisultan Nazarbayev graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the UK, studied business administration in KIMEP in Kazakhstan. He served in the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan. He also played football professionally and served as vice-president of the Football Federation of Kazakhstan. 

He was treated for cocaine dependency in a clinic for drug addicts. In October 2019, he received a suspended sentence for assaulting a police officer in London in June 2019. In someone else’s hotel room, he tried to commit suicide. The verdict included a probationary period, continued drug treatment, community service and a fine.

In 2013, Aisultan Nazarbayev married the daughter of businessman Kairat Boranbayev, Alima. He has a son and a daughter.
